News out now that Solomon Burke, the “King Of Rock-N-Soul” has died this morning. Collapsing at an airport in Amsterdam, the singer was 70 years old. Probably best known to recent generations because of his song “Cry To Me”being featured in the movie Dirty Dancing. But, if you dig deeper you find that the man was an enormous talent, being inducted into the Rock-N-Roll hall of fame in 2001. His catalog is huge and I would do no justice to him by trying to get into it. Google his and find out. Below is a cover of Bob Dylan’s Maggies Farm as well as a couple other more well known tracks. A hauntingly touching song from Last Emperor’s debut album which features Poetic of Gravediggaz fame rhyming about his bout with colon cancer. A fight that eventually took his life in the summer of ’01. With the beautiful voice of Esthero on the hook how could you go wrong??? I remember listening to this song about 200 times in a row when I picked up the Last Emperor Music…Magic…Myth album.
