The 4th Avenue Jones were a group composed of Ahmad, from “Back In The Day”fame, his then wife, Tena Jones and Jabu who were backed by live instrumentation from Timmy Shakes, GailyBird and others. Their sound was described as HipRockSoul, infusing the best of the 3 genres. They began on their own label Lookalive Records, they released 3 albums which were critically acclaimed. Major label Interscope came biting and wanted to sign the group. After signing a deal, the label began tinkering with the group, wanting to release a solo project from Tena Jones before the groups release. Jabu left the group to pursues his own career, They then are released from Universal and sign on with Gotee to release their album Stereo, it was critically acclaimed however it did not receive the proper push from the label. Eventually it imploded the group, They soon disbanded, Ahmad and Tena had some martial issues and ended up separating. Ahmad released a solo project Death of Me, while also going to school at Stanford pursuing his doctorate. Jabu has performed with the Latin influenced Ozomatli and the world is still awaiting Tena Jones solo effort.
