I trust very few artist to recreate the music of Nina Simone, Meshell is one of them I trust though. The fact she brought along Cody ChestnuTT cements the deal. While he is certainly not someone who comes to mind when thinking about cover artists, he does an incredible job here, and of course Meshell is flawless. Her new album, which is composed entirely of Nina Simone songs is titled Pour une âme Souveraine (For a Sovereign Soul), A Dedication to Nina Simone and is set to be released on October 9th. I can’t wait to see what else she has in store for us….I bet Kanye is kicking and screaming that nobody asked him to be involved.

On September 25th, 2012 the world will bear witness to Heaven’s Computer, a conceptual offering from 7even:Thirty via Mello Music Group. The first single dropped was “Get Up” and showcased the vocal weaponry of 7even:Thirty. This time around, he brings along Kamikaze (Crooked Lettaz) and Sleepy Will to warn about the pitfalls of the so-called Hip-Hop industry, over Erik L production. Exposing the dysfunctional business ethics of a corrupted industry being pimped by corporate America. Less verbal jabs and more dropped jewels makes for a track all these upcoming, wanna-be emcees need to peep.
“I’m Posdonous with a pistol, you rappers get plugged. One” – Kamikaze
“Biggest question you should ask is, “would you do this shit for free?” – 7even:Thirty
