Hard To Earn to this day remains my favorite Gang Starr album. I remember the day I bought it, I remember the day I saw the video for “Mass Appeal” on Video Box. I lost my mind when I first heard Premier’s now infamous loop of 3 short seconds from a Vic Juris track. Guru does what Guru did best vocally and the end result was a classic above all other classic. One of my favorite live hip-hop moments, and I have a ton of them, is seeing Gang Starr live with Freddie Foxx, Big Shug, and M.O.P. When they performed “The Militia” it was wild on stage. Freddie Foxxx drops one of the livest verses in rap music history. As a matter of fact, I might make next week Freddie Foxxx week and put up a joint from him every day. One of hip-hops unsung heroes……
