2013 will not end without some new Hardcore space gangsta music from Jacktown’s own 7even:Thirty. Joining forces with Philly’s Hezekiah, rap music’s legitimate alien drops the aptly titled “Future Flow” produced by one of 7even’s main collaborators from Heaven’s Computer, Erik L. Mello Music Group is gearing up Rhyme Travelin’ to be unleashed soon I hope. Not much info on the project is available at this time, but keep tuned in and we’ll let you know what we know, when we know it.

While Dam is making all the usual stops someone would expect when releasing a project with Snoop D O double G Snoopzilla. Let me remind you about a refreak he did of Toro Y Moi’s “Say That” from Anything In Return. I’m not sure how one funks up something that is already funky, but Dam does it. Now, 7 Days Of Funk is cool, but let’s get a new Dam project. Also check out below an unreleased Dam track called “Acceptance”
Philly native Truck North will be giving us Murder By Mourning very soon. On the second single “The Man”, Truck channels his inner Lords Of The Underground. Production is handled by Dante Lewis a VA producer who’s worked with No Malice, Curren$y and others.
Jamla is the Squad! drops next month and 9th Wonder and Rapsody drop another gem to get you prepared. A little different side of 9th on the beat and Rap rides the hell out of it. Rapsody is a serious force who will need to be reckoned with. Unfortunately when people see or hear a female emcee they always group them in the same category. Nobody likes to remember when Roxanne Shante, MC Lyte and the Queen were ripping microphones. They want their female rappers to be Nicki and Kim, but nah, give me Rapsody or Invincible any day.
Mela Machinko is a Brooklyn native and known for her family appearances on albums from Pharoahe Monch to Skyzoo. She recently put out an EP titled 9AM Blues. It is rich with soothing harmonies and hip-hopesque production handled primarily by Mr Len (Company Flow). Overall it is 8 solid tracks of exactly what one would expect from the Brooklynite. If you have not hear her before, she takes me back to the days of Les Nubians and The Jazzyfatnastees, an era I call OkaySoul. If you are unfamiliar with those artists, then get to googling.
Extra Butter and Asics release another in the Death List 5 series, inspired by Kill Bill. This release is inspired by Michael Madsen’s Budd character or “Sidewinder” as he’s referred to. The denim and Hawaiian combine with the periwinkle blue representing Budd’s outfits in key scenes. They tie the character up nicely in the GT-Cool silhouette. The shoes will be available in store at both Extra Butter locations on January 4th and online via their website on January 6th at 8pm EST.
A Bathing Ape has hooked up with America’s original animated dysfunctional family for a collection that should empty the pocket books of some young adults. The Simpsons Baby Milo capsule makes use of the iconic Simpson colorways and Bart takes center stage. The think of everything even the baby bibs for Maggie. The varsity jackets have to be my favorite pieces, although just the tee with the entire family sitting on the couch is timeless. Well played Nigo, you know me well.
Off of Mello Music Group’s compilation “Mandala Vol. 2, Today’s Mathematics” which drops everywhere on January 28. “Pay Attention” production handled by Apollo Brown and rhymes delivered by his counterparts Verbal Kent and Red Pill. If you haven’t already check out their debut self-titled release here
“I heard your album and I don’t believe a word of it”
Today’s TOD is dedicated to all you “trap”, “crip and/or blood”, “glock bustin'” “rappers”. Taken from Bronx rapper Nine’s sophomore release Cloud 9 and it rings even more true today and it did back in ’96. 9MM, as he was originally known, had a very distinct voice and moderate success with his first release Nine Livez but Cloud 9 did not live up to expectations. Profile records released his first two album, but when it was sold in ’97, that left Nine essentially without a home. In 2009, he finally released his third album Quinine.
