Before Van Morrison became a household name with songs like “Brown Eyed Girl”, “Moon Dance”, and “Crazy Love” he was the vocalist for the Irish Rock-N-Roll group Them. They recorded a pair of albums from ’64-’66 and had a few chart hits. However, it was the song “Gloria”, a song Morrison had written at just 18, that became what many would call a rock standard. “Gloria” has been covered by a who’s who list of music groups. A list which includes Jimi Hendrix, The 13th Floor Elevators, and The Doors, which I included below for you to check out. The 13th Floor Elevators’ version is easily my favorite. Roky Erickson’s voice is psychedelic rock. I also dig Bill Murray’s version of it too, with a little help from Mr Clapton.
