New Orleans based emcee, Lyrikill is back and he’s teamed up with producer Prospek for The Nostalgia EP. The project will serve as the soundtrack to the mini-movie “Oleander” The E.P. will be hosted by Statik Selektah and will feature a bonus track produced by the vet.
I have always looked at music as a means to tell a story and promote the appreciation of all forms of art,’ Lyrikill said. ‘So for this project I wanted to merge music, visual and performing art in one medium.
“Runnin’ Thru My Mind” is produced by Prospek and features cuts by DJ Inform. It combines witty lyricism with simple banging production and sharp cuts on the hook. The mini movie, directed by Houston-based upstart DH Pain Productions will start filming in February with a full release and soundtrack coming in Spring 2014. Keep tuned in for more information.
Red packets are given during holidays and social gatherings in Chinese culture. They symbolize good luck and the Red Envelope is said to ward off evil spirits. With Chinese New Year approaching on January 31st, Nike releases a special Red Packet version of the Dunk Hi SB. Red suede and leather compose the upper with gold accents. The gold coin debray plays on the warding off of evil spirits as well, traditionally gold coins with red string tied through them were used to protect the elderly from sickness and even death. The outsole is clear with gold glitter tying back into the accents in the upper. Really feeling these…..
Tried & True is a vintage boutique in LA’s famed Fairfax district, boasting an inventory of immaculately-curated shelves which contain everything from vintage Chanel bomber jackets to pristine Polo luggage. The shop has been making a lot of noise over the past couple of years, most recently hosting a little #NWTS soirée for Drizzy and a pop-up shop collaboration with Champion brand.
In an effort to capture the spirit and sensibility of Tried & True’s inventory, I opted to strictly pull tracks from the 80s, 90s and early 2000s. This is a 60-minute mix of throwback selections conceived during the same era as much of the gear on Tried & True’s shelves.
Christon Gray, from Columbus, OH, takes us down the road which troubles every young man, especially one who adheres to Christian values. Christon says it best “People share a lot of the same experiences in relationships. Growing up you learn that love is not what you think it is, and by the time you’ve found that one, left behind usually is a trail of broken hearts, failed attempts, and overdue apologies. So is it magic or mayhem?” Christon tackles relationships while handling the bars and the melodic hook.
Looking forward to see what Christon and Collision Records has in store for the future.
To get the word out about next weeks THE 90s PARTY PART DEUX, DJ Jonasty has put together a little mix of songs from, you guessed it, the 90s. a time when things were much simpler. A time of Starter jackets, Cross Colours, overalls, Polo Sport, and Timberlands. A time when DJs could play the music they wanted without being bothered by what the “radio” was playing. So next week if you’re in the Jackson area come out and support DJ Young Venom and DJ Jonasty as they spin tracks that some of you were probably not even old enough to remember.
Between a Rock and a Hard Place from Tame One, El Da Sensei and DJ Kaos, known to the world collectively as The Artifacts, is a classic “underground” album. “C’mon Wit Da Git Down” was produced by Buckwild of the Diggin In The Crates crew.
