Yuri Jones is a New Orleans born musician and poet, 7th Ward to be exact, who was relocated to Houston post Katrina. Times got tougher for Jones as he was diagnosed with cancer and defeated it not once but twice. Those hardships can derail some people, but not Jones, he turned it into motivation. Instead of seeing despair and heartache he saw hope. In an interview with InvadeNola he is quoted as saying “I’m inspired by waking up in a world of joys and sorrows, successes and failures, victories and defeats. There’s always a story to be told, whether it be my own or the story of someone I’ve never met. Everyday deserves a different page in my notebook.”
“Running” was produced by Los Angeles based Blair Taylor. The video is directed by Jacob Turrentine. The video has the feel of a short film as Yuri is shown looking for a female in a hotel, but remains a step behind her the entire way.
Reach Record’s artist Andy Mineo released his project Never Land this week. On first single from it “You Can’t Stop Me” Andy recognizes that he’s the only person who can stop him. Since I discovered Mineo’s music a few months ago, one thing I’ve noticed is that his lyrics are refreshingly honest. Even when he’s bragging, his vulnerability is there for everyone to see.

If you have not heard of him allow me to introduce you to Jamie Cullum, the man that Michael Buble wishes he were. Jamie recorded his cover of Pharrell’s “Frontin” on his second album Twentysomething. I was a fan from that point and he’s put out some pretty good albums since with Catching Tales, Momentum and The Pursuit. Cullum went on to work with Pharrell, appearing on “You Can Do It Too” from In My Mind. He has also worked with Dan The Automator on both the Handsome Boy Modeling School and Deltron 3030’s Event II.
