Mention the Skull Snaps and those who know tends to think about the drums from “It’s A New Day” due to the affinity producers have shared regarding them within the Hip-Hop realm. I plead with you to not let that be your only experience with the band. As sample hound, there are so many drums on this album it’ll keep you busy for days. Trust me, the sample websites only have a very small portion of the samples from this masterpiece. If you are a lover of raw funk this album caters to your every whim. I am more of the latter, digging for breaks and samples is fun and all, but you end up missing the music. I can dive into this album and spend the entire day, regretting none of it. Recent reissues are out there to be purchased for fairly moderate prices compared to what you had to spend on the record say 20 years ago. Still original vinyl, and their isn’t a lot of it, is astronomically priced. In fact there is one going on Ebay right now for $400.00.
