The Jazz Spastiks call upon the legendary awesomeness of Vancouver Canuck and former Swollen Member(twice I might add), Moka Only. Moka is built for the jazzy type of melodic hip-hop these cats make. I could see an entire project between the two going very well, and considering Moka’s work ethic (see 4,783 albums released since mid 90s), I don’t see why this should be a reality.

Blue Note Records is continuing their trend of recent dominance or return to dominance if you will. Following last weeks release of Takuya Kuroda’s Rising Son the label prepares for Oakland born trumpeter Ambrose Akinmusire’s The Imagined Savior Is Far Easier To Paint on March 11th. “Our Basement (ED)” is taken from the new album and features Becca Stevens assistance vocally. Becca Stevens’ name might sound familiar, she contributed to Esperanza Spaulding’s Radio Music Society. If this is any indication then Blue Note is going to absolutely own the first quarter of 2014.
Jackson emcee D.O.L.O. is fresh off his show at Morningbell Record last month at the New Jacks event. He’s been working on his next project called Booby Miles. “Keep It Forward” is all about D.O.L.O. moving forward, keeping it pushing as he looks to develop as an artist. Word has it he’s working with 5th Child and Jaxx City, so it’s obvious he’s moving in the right direction. We need more experienced people reaching out and helping to guide these younger artists. If you’re going to effectively develop a scene, you must work with the youth, they are the future.
20Syl is still at it, on the eve of Oxymoron dropping, the French producer remixes “The Purge” which happens to be a verse from Schoolboy’s Rapfix Cypher also. Word to Curtis and the Impressions, “Get On Board” and check it out. 20Syl sure is killing it with his latest series of remixes. Check out the Jason Goldwatch directed video for “Break The Bank” below too.
Keith Murray is back at it, with a fresh track called “Chasin’ Demons”. Since his last studio album, Keith recorded a project as a part of the duo The Undergods, which featured Can-I-Bus. The L.O.D./Def Squad member spits some introspective lyrics admitting that “even when I’m dreamin’ I be chasin’ demons”. Murray has always been one of my favorite emcees who never got the shine they deserve. He’s got classic verses and songs under his belt.
