When The Most Beautifullest Thing In The World dropped, cat’s heads were blown. Keith Murray’s wordplay was ridiculously on point. Add in Erick Sermon production and you got one hell of a debut album from the Def Squader. The George McRae sample from the aptly titled track “I Get Lifted” is what sets this song off for me. Murray is just being Murray on the track, but we all know a dope lyricist cannot carry a track alone. The funk is what makes this so appealing. Erick Sermon had the funk on lock.

Marcel P. Black will be delivering to the world his new album Black Collar this year. “Live My Love” is first track from it and is produced by Baton Rouge’s Tezz. Featuring gritty and honest lyricism over a slowed down Millie Jackson sample, the song is a certified banger. The formula is there and the album will certainly be on your don’t miss list for 2014. Before he was the man, Aloe Blacc was the best kept secret in the Los Angeles underground scene. In 2004/2005 he recorded a spanish version of John Legend’s “Ordinary People”, complete with an ode to Stevie Wonder, which is what caught my attention then. I’ve only heard it a couple of times and both times it was digitally. Well fast forward to last Wednesday and while attending a local Vinyl Record night, DJ Sandpaper pulled the vinyl out and proceeded to knock me out my seat. It’s a great version, and a must have for everyone.

De La Soul will be releasing Smell The D.A.I.S.Y. on Wednesday, March 26th. The project is a homage to late producer extraordinaire James D Yancey, known worldwide as J Dilla. “Vocabulary Spills” is an example of the spectacular awesomely awesomeness that is certain to be this mixtape. The trio is planning on dropping one more mixtape (Premium Soul On The Rocks), produced by Pete Rock & DJ Premier, before releasing their full-length album You’re Welcome.
“You cry keepin it real, you should try keepin it right.” just was raw when quoted today as it was all them years ago……
