Marcel P Black links up with St. Louis emcee Tef Poe for the latest release from Marcel’s forthcoming Cry Freedom album. Joe On The Track, who produced the entire project, samples the unforgettable Terrible Tom theme song from the 1975 film “Boss N*****” which starred Fred Williamson and D’Urville Martin.
For those familiar with the movie, they would know that the pairing of Marcel and Tef Poe works perfectly. If the first single from the album, “Where I Stay”, is Marcel’s declaration of where he comes from, “Boss” is the complementary track for where he’s headed and who he’s bringing with him. This track definitely has that throw back Dead Prez feel to it, so you know the nod and repeat factors here are on 10. Both emcees come from the front lines when it comes to fighting police brutality against black men and women and as Marcel points out they are willing to take the fight all the way to the white house. If you are like me and grew up a fan of Public Enemy, PRT, Paris, The Coup, etc then “Boss” is not up your alley, it is your alley. I am definitely looking forward to what else is in store when Cry Freedom drops this summer.
