In 2012 Cody ChesnuTT released Landing On A Hundred, in 2014 he is releasing some b-sides from the album. This little number features Bluesman Gary Clark Jr. and I would not be upset if these two decided to record a whole album together. They compliment each other perfectly. “Gunpowder On The Letter” is equal parts country, blues, rock, and soul. Or as I like to call it CountrySoul RockinBlues…..trademarked…..anyway enjoy…
Blues
Leo “Bud” Welch is 81 years old and hails from Bruce, Mississippi…..a town you probably have never heard. Not to worry, the town boasts of a little over 2,000 residents. However, as one of those residents Mr. Welch has carved out a living by performing on the Church circuit. Originally a blues singer, Bud modified his sound for the non-secular side, in order to sustain consistent work. The work was so consistent that for over 35 years he continued this life. While working for a timber company. finally, Leo decided it was time to try for his break. Similar to the story of Charles Bradley (if you don’t know, google is your friend), Leo Welch picked up the phone and cold called Big Legal Mess, a record label in Oxford, MS and asked if they’d be interested in putting out his record. After fate stepped in when an intern almost turned him away, he was invited to play for BLM’s Bruce Watson. He was signed immediately and tomorrow, January 7th, Big Legal Mess will be releasing Leo Welch’s Sabougla Voices. Welch’s sound is equal parts blues and gospel and one thing is certain it’ll keep your foot stomping and your head bobbing from front to back. You can purchase the album directly through Big Legal Mess or from iTunes or Amazon at the links below. If you’re in Oxford you will be able to pick up a copy at End Of All Music record store. Be sure to catch Leo Welch live, check the calendar here
Richard Pryor sings the mess out of this blues standard. They just don’t make ’em like this any more do they?

Man……..do yourself a favor and listen to this track…..incredible voice
Gary Clark Jr is definitely the future of the blues, why? Because the President of the United States is already singing along to your song…..and Warner Bros hasn’t even put their foot into your promotional campaign….but this dude is the truth without a question. His rise has been like that of a Super Nova, hopefully he burns for many years to come. I’m genuinely excited to see where he goes in his career. I don’t get that into new artists very often either.
Muddy Waters’ received the most success, chart wise, with a little song written by Mr Willie Dixon. The song “I’m Your Hoochie Coochie Man” was wildly provocative and has been covered time and time again. Bo Diddley, Muddy’s label mate, responded with his song “I’m A Man” and Muddy came back with “Mannish Boy”. Friendly competition is always good for creative source.
