Some new new from Dam-Funk, new as in recorded and posted TODAY new. I’m talking 7 minutes of nothing but some funky stuff. Dam has been on a roll lately, especially on social media. He publicly vowed to refrain from allowing the n-word to be recorded on his tracks in the future. He’s been venturing in new directions and showing artistic growth. He’s handled the mediocre reception that 7 Days Of Funk has had, with style and grace. “Never Gon’ Sell Out, Never Gon’ Sell My Soul” is pretty self explanatory, as he shows that the funk comes as easily to him as crying to a new born child fresh out the womb.
The Decoders are gearing up for a new release and have brought along UK Soulstress, Alice Russell for this trip through the world of Minnie Riperton’s “Adventures In Paradise”. While the original is soulful, they pick it up a bit. It works very well with Alice Russell’s singing style. Be on the look out for Adventures From Paradise Vol 3 dropping this year at some point.
Erik Rico and Lifenotes Records will be releasing a new album next month Erik Rico’s Jukebox Vol. 1, “Penny” is the first offering from the project. Good music is alive and well. It’s funky, soulful, bluesy, rock-n-rollish, and just plan excellent..
While Dam is making all the usual stops someone would expect when releasing a project with
Snoop D O double G Snoopzilla. Let me remind you about a refreak he did of Toro Y Moi’s “Say That” from Anything In Return. I’m not sure how one funks up something that is already funky, but Dam does it. Now, 7 Days Of Funk is cool, but let’s get a new Dam project. Also check out below an unreleased Dam track called “Acceptance”
This is what the internet is FOR!!! I can do no justice to it, so I’ll let Prince Paul tell you about it
This is a song from the album “Turn my Teeth up” from the very Short lived Band of “Baby Elephant” Prince Paul , Newkirk and funk legend Bernie Worrell of Parliament Funkadelic . Unfortunately we never got a chance to Launch this album or the band properly but the album is definitely a lost Gem .. I really love how Bernie Plays and it was an Honor to Produce someone who I admired almost all of my life . If you don’t Know who Bernie Worrell is learn your music and google him . The infamous sound behind Parliament / Funkadelic !!!
Snoop D O double G Snoopzilla are 7 Days of Funk. Their debut album is available now on Stones Throw, and it’s funking fantastic. If you’re like me you saw this coming years ago and you should be just as happy as I am that it’s finally come to fruition.
Long live Daptone Records!! For Record Store Day this year they released a 7″ for Charles’ new single “Changes” off his Victim of Love album. The B-side to the album was this little ditty, “Ain’t it a Sin” which Charles Bradley recorded with his original backing band, The Bullets. If you’re one of those digital or die types of folks, listen here…..
