Comprehensive Beatdown is back this week with some more good new music to check out. Bloggy Bonilla and Silent G focus on “What For,” the newest offering from Toro y Moi, who is often, against his will, categorized in the Chillwave scene. It is debated amongst music fans whether or not Chillwave is even a genre, as most artists associated with the genre do not claim it on their own. Either way, Toro y Moi is a dynamic artist who has steadily progressed since his first release in 2010. The guys also play music from Aceyalone, Freestyle Fellowship, Tycho, and Jackson, MS artists Coke Bumaye (happy birthday!) and Rene Lee. Thanks for listening and supporting.
Producer L’Orange has just agreed to a deal with Mello Music Group. The deal is described below…
After selling out the first three pressings of his vinyl in under 30 days, old soul producer L’Orange has signed a 3 album production deal with MMG for 2014 & 2015. Slated to create a combination of projects from instrumental, to jazz singers, to alternative edged collaborations with emcees, L’Orange is looking to bring his distinct sound to Mello’s audience, while continuing to push the boundaries of his musical explorations.
I am excited to hear all three of these projects. Let’s get cracking guys……
Now that is done with enjoy some L’Orange production aided by Mr Lif and John Robinson. This piece of sonic goodness can be found on Mello Music Groups Mandala Vol. 1, Polysonic Flows.
News out now that Solomon Burke, the “King Of Rock-N-Soul” has died this morning. Collapsing at an airport in Amsterdam, the singer was 70 years old. Probably best known to recent generations because of his song “Cry To Me”being featured in the movie Dirty Dancing. But, if you dig deeper you find that the man was an enormous talent, being inducted into the Rock-N-Roll hall of fame in 2001. His catalog is huge and I would do no justice to him by trying to get into it. Google his and find out. Below is a cover of Bob Dylan’s Maggies Farm as well as a couple other more well known tracks. Hope you enjoy…..
Happy 70th birthday to John Lennon and though he left this world almost 30 years ago his music still has an impact most artists only dream of. He is still missed and adored by billions of people world wide.
