Marcel P Black links up with St. Louis emcee Tef Poe for the latest release from Marcel’s forthcoming Cry Freedom album. Joe On The Track, who produced the entire project, samples the unforgettable Terrible Tom theme song from the 1975 film “Boss N*****” which starred Fred Williamson and D’Urville Martin.
For those familiar with the movie, they would know that the pairing of Marcel and Tef Poe works perfectly. If the first single from the album, “Where I Stay”, is Marcel’s declaration of where he comes from, “Boss” is the complementary track for where he’s headed and who he’s bringing with him. This track definitely has that throw back Dead Prez feel to it, so you know the nod and repeat factors here are on 10. Both emcees come from the front lines when it comes to fighting police brutality against black men and women and as Marcel points out they are willing to take the fight all the way to the white house. If you are like me and grew up a fan of Public Enemy, PRT, Paris, The Coup, etc then “Boss” is not up your alley, it is your alley. I am definitely looking forward to what else is in store when Cry Freedom drops this summer.
New music from the duo from across the pond, Imperial and K.I.N.E.T.I.K. off of their new album titled Adventures In Technicolour. The project drops on April 15th via Illect Recordings. You can pre-order it now at one of the links listed below. “Higher” is a perfect introduction to the group for those who are not familiar with the group and are curious about what to expect. Hard beats with upbeat lyrics and catchy hooks. Give a listen and let the new Dynamic Duo earn a place on your iPod just in time for summer.
Michael Kiwanuka has an album dropping on May 27th, which means happy birthday to me! Love & Hate will be the sophomore release from the British soul singer who has drawn comparisons to everyone from Bill Withers to Randy Newman. Even Adele has taken note as he was invited to open up for her during her 2011 Live tour. “Black Man in A White World” is the first song from the album and receives a beautifully shot b&w video. I’m a sucker for soul claps, as well. So this thing is like a homerun to me. If you have a chance check out his debut album Home Again. Soul music is always relevant.
A Beautiful Prelude EP chronicles the pain and aftermath of Alfred Banks’ brother Orlandas Banks’ death after battling Schizophrenia.
As Alfred prepares for the funeral, he writes a heartfelt letter & reminisces on all the good & bad times they shared. This project caught the attention of XXL Freshman Charles Hamilton & he debuted it on his official website.
Alfred plans to help shed a light on such a stigmatized topic in our society and reach out to others who are experiencing the same struggles everyday.

In exactly one month’s time, producer Imperial and rapper K.I.N.E.T.I.K. will release Adventures in Technicolour via Illect Recordings (April 15th). They previously worked together on the E.P. Pencils Not Pistols back in late 2013. The E.P. was met with acclaim and the duo went to work on their full-length album shortly after. “Good Music” is the first track from said album. A feel good track that really serves as a great introduction to the album. Everything from boom-bap production to the hot rhymes is on point here. The duo showcases exactly why they form such a fantastic team.
More info regarding new album:
Adventures In Technicolour is the brand new album from Imperial and K.I.N.E.T.I.K. Following the success of their debut E.P., the dastardly duo packed away their pencil cases and returned to their countryside hideout to prove that their unexpected crossing of paths was no fluke.
Two years later, they have emerged from their Oreo milkshake scented cave with a collection of songs that focus less on the ‘blacks and greys’ of yesterday and more on the ‘blues and greens’ of tomorrow. Sonically and thematically, a kaleidoscopic intensity pulsates throughout the album’s nineteen tracks. The palette of shades and hues that make up the adventure known as life are paraded in their full and picturesque glory. Guest appearances include the frequent excursionist himself, Oddisee, the UK’s hardest working class Dad, Micall Parknsun, Michigan’s freshest rhymesayer, James Gardin and their tried and trusted hook hit-man, Tone Richardson, among others.
Prepare to laugh in the face of monochrome mundanity and experience a multi-coloured smorgasbord of live-wire lyricism laid atop a bed of fluorescent funk.

Silas is an emcee/musician who hails from Jackson, MS. He recently dropped his album The Day I Died the follow up to his mixtape Rap Revolt. An musical journey into the evolution of Silas as a person and an artist. The album is thoughtfully put together and riding the wave of the viral sensation “Gullah Gullah Island”, it is sure to make some noise. On the day the album dropped, Silas also released a video for the hit single. The video captures the feel of the track perfectly. Riding the beat produced by Donche, Silas draws a vivid picture of his own personal Gullah Gullah Island.
“Where they couldn’t bring crack to the hood, cause there ain’t no hood. Tyrone and Keisha doing pretty damn good. All the kids wearing hoodies, coming from the back of the 7/11 with a bag full of goodies. Skittles with a can of Arizona on deck, from a black owned store cause we mobbin’ like that”
So click the video above and let Silas transport you to his utopia. Then click below and pick up the album. Reject Regular Rap.

Alfred Banks calls upon fellow N.O. native producer CZA to assist on a pair of tracked dedicated to his late brother Orlandas Banks. The duo make a formidable team, which is displayed perfectly on “A Beautiful Song” as Banks bounces effortlessly over the soulful beat. I’m looking forward to the new project from Alfred as he continues to evolve into a more complete artist. Complex named him one of New Orleans ten up and coming artists and soon the rest of the country will know about Alfred Banks.
“This 2 part video “A Beautiful Song” & “Bless You” chronicles the pain and aftermath of Alfred Banks’ brother Orlandas Banks’ death after battling Schizophrenia. As Alfred prepares for the funeral, he writes a heartfelt letter & reminisces on all the good & bad times they shared.
Alfred plans to help shed a light on such a stigmatized topic in our society and reach out to others who are experiencing the same struggles everyday. This video will be followed by A 3 track EP titled “A Beautiful Prelude” set to be released on March 20th, 2016 in honor of the 2 year anniversary of his passing.”
Yes, I’m back….whatever….you probably didn’t even know I was gone. We got a new mission though. Stay tuned….

Comprehensive Beatdown is 30 episodes this old this week! For this special episode, Bloggy Bonilla and Silent G listen to “Meow the Jewels,” which probably needs no introduction to our listeners. But we’ll give it to you anyway. “Meow the Jewels,” which began as a joke “bonus package” buried deep in the email announcing the varying release formats of Run the Jewels 2, came to fruition after a group of friends contributed over $40,000 to an online campaign to make Killer Mike and El-P produce the record. A wide array of guest producers were brought in to complete the project, which is a full remix of Run the Jewels 2 album, using cat sounds for the music. All proceeds from the online campaign were donated to charities that benefit the victims of police brutality.
The intro music is from “Seven Seas,” the new record from Emancipator, which dropped on September 25th.
