The Easy Truth is a collaborative album between Detroit producer Apollo Brown and Brooklynite rapper Skyzoo and is available now on Mello Music Group. “A Couple Dollars” is a laid back ode to getting paid and features fellow Brooklyn born emcee Joell Ortiz. There is no doubt that this album will be one of those timeless hip-hop releases, which seems to be what Mello Music Group is all about lately. Click one of the links below and cop the album.
This is shaping up to be a really good album. Apollo Brown is finally starting to get the recognition he deserves and Ras is well…….Ras. When he’s not smashing bottles on cats in the club, he’s definitely one of hip-hop’s unsung heroes. Their collaborative album Blaphemy is dropping on Mello Music Group on October 28th. Be sure to give it a listen, with features from Royce Da 5’9, Xzibit, Pharoahe Monch, Sick Jacken, Sean Price, and many more. Ras Kass fits over boom bap tracks like a glove, this is right on par with the Premier and Royce Da 5’9 album that’s going to drop for me. You cannot talk about the west coast and not mention Ras.

On April, 29th producer Apollo Brown, by way of Mello Music Group, brought to the world his instrumental album Thirty Eight. The tracks offered a backdrop to the raw and grimy Detroit soundscape. As a member of the Ugly Heroes crew we got a glimpse into the genius of his work. On this new album we get a full helping of it. When listening to it, I couldn’t help but imagine different emcees spitting bars over the beats. They had to be just as grimy. They had to bring lyrical fire. Well, I did not have to wait long for that dream to be answered. Apollo enlists Roc Marciano to step in and body the “Lonely & Cold” beat.
Detroit producer, Apollo Brown releases a short 3 track instrumental EP today in anticipation of the full length project Thirty Eight, which drops on April 29th via Mello Music Group. The Cigarette Burns EP, features 3 tracks from the project which Apollo describes as taking place somewhere between the heroin laced 70s and the crack filled 80s landscapes. It is also free to download, so you have zero excuses for not grabbing this. I can’t think of a better way to describe it. I’m looking forward to this drop as you should probably be doing too. His reworking of the Gensu Dean x Planet Asia project titled Stitched Up was great.

Gensu Dean and Apollo Brown have a new remix project coming out on Mello Music Group. The premise behind the album is that both producers take songs from the others collaborative works last year and re-work them. Dean takes tracks from Apollo Brown & Guilty Simpson‘s collaborative effort Dice Game and Brown will take songs from Gensu Dean & Planet Asia‘s Abrasions. The result is one project with two sides: Abrasions: Stitched Up and Dice Game: Shaken coming out January 14, 2014.
Off of Mello Music Group’s compilation “Mandala Vol. 2, Today’s Mathematics” which drops everywhere on January 28. “Pay Attention” production handled by Apollo Brown and rhymes delivered by his counterparts Verbal Kent and Red Pill. If you haven’t already check out their debut self-titled release here
The collaborative album, Trophies, from Apollo Brown and O.C. is available now…..on Itunes, Bandcamp, and anywhere else you buy fine music……Very dope and fresh take on the Isaac Hayes sample….
“Just Walk” finds Apollo Brown flipping a legendary sample into a triumphant composition with potent horn stabs. OC matches the majesty of Apollo’s beat by waxing poetically about his “alpha male ego” and comparing his street respect to that of Nuyorican poet Miguel Piñero. Calm and mature yet rugged and live, “Just Walk” is exemplary of the kind of substance you can expect from Trophies.
Man, Dean keeps coming with that Raw hip-hop music, this time blessing DJ Soko with a banger for Guilty Simpson to rock on……available on limited edition Mello Music Group 7″ which includes the song “Stand Up” with Hassaan Mackey & Guilty Simpson and produced by Apollo Brown…..yeah…Hip Hop and you do not stop….purchase it here
