Premier brings in the D.I.T.C. vet A.G. to spit over vintage Preemo production. A.G. shows those who might not know, why he’s been in the game for so long. Diggin In The Crates is just as relevant today. That makes Papoose, Dres, Jakk Frost, and now A.G. as the emcees to destroy the mic on Premier’s “Bars In The Booth” series, who’s next?
Gang Starr’s Daily Operation, was one of the most important albums of 1992. The album was hardcore New York City hip-hop. “Soliloquy Of Chaos” embodies all that we came to known and love about the duo of Guru and DJ Premier. Classic Premier jazz loop and Guru’s monotone delivery fit together perfectly. Ahmad Jamal’s “Misdemeanor” provides the backdrop for Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal as he takes notice of the dangers of performing shows in Brooklyn, where shorties but guns and never have to run.
38 Spesh teams up with Kool G Rap and spits over some DJ Premier signature beat work. The track is featured on Spesh’s DJ Green Lantern hosted mixtape The Art Of Production. Classic east coast stick up kid soundtrack. Enjoy.
Preemo calls upon the powers of the Beard Gang General, Jakk Frost. Session numero tres in Dj Premier’s Bars In The Booth series has the Philly veteran MC crushing some classic production from the Gang Starr OG.
“I get away with murder like I drive a white bronco”……..whelp……
Common + Preemo + Bilal? Lost my mind when the beat dropped on this the first time I heard it.
“If I don’t like it, I don’t like it. That don’t mean that I’m hatin'” & “I’m Morpheus in this hip-hop matrix exposing fake sh**” – words I live by
DJ Premier has launched his new website (www.premierwuzhere) and has also launched a new campaign that he’s calling “Bars In The Booth”. A series where he will invite capable emcees to the studio to get in the booth and spit over a track provided by himself. The first release from the project featured Papoose and was subsequently not featured on here due to my strict “NO PAPOOSE, EVER” policy. Sorry people, rules is rules. However, for the second release from the series Preemo called in the one and only, Dres from Black Sheep to rock the mic. Prem brings the best out of emcees.
“When the King has no clothes/you peep the fallacy/If they are great big stars/I’m a tiny galaxy” – Dres!
De La Soul will be releasing Smell The D.A.I.S.Y. on Wednesday, March 26th. The project is a homage to late producer extraordinaire James D Yancey, known worldwide as J Dilla. “Vocabulary Spills” is an example of the spectacular awesomely awesomeness that is certain to be this mixtape. The trio is planning on dropping one more mixtape (Premium Soul On The Rocks), produced by Pete Rock & DJ Premier, before releasing their full-length album You’re Welcome.
“You cry keepin it real, you should try keepin it right.” just was raw when quoted today as it was all them years ago……
Check out this jazzy , upbeat version of Gangstarr’s “Lovesick” done by Decade’s (an Australian group) DL. Really enjoying this version right now. Adds a completely new feel and twist to the original.
Crew tracks aren’t anything new, proof in point Big Daddy Kane’s, DJ Premier produced “Show and Prove” with Scoob, Sauce Money, Shyheim, Ol Dirt Dawg and a young cat by the name of JZ. The album Daddy’s Home was some what of a let down commercially, but it was still a pretty solid effort. Tracks like “In The PJs”, “That’s How I Did Em”, and “Let Yourself Go” were classic BDK tracks.
Let’s just continue with the Gang Starr theme for today shall we? Premier remixed this Disclosure track, which will be included on their Special Edition of Settle dropping on Tuesday Dec 16th.
