Jose James has been making a name for himself for the past few years. From last years No Beginning No End to his stirring rendition of “Everybody (Loves Sunshine)” on Takuya Kuroda’s Rising Son album, which James also produced. The man just does not stop either, this summer he will release his second Blue Note offering, While You Were Sleeping. With the previous release being more soulful and jazz inspired, he promises this one will be more reflective of some of his other musical influences such as Nirvana and Jimi Hendrix. Those two influences couldn’t be any more apparent than on the first single from the project, “EveryLittleThing”. Keep June 10th marked on your calendar, you’ll want to pick this album up and check it out.
Blue Note Records announced today that on June 10th they will be releasing Jose James While You Were Sleeping the follow up to his label debut No Beginning No End. NBNE was one of the star releases in 2013 and While You Were Sleeping certainly has a lot to live up to. Jose is no rookie though, before signing on with Blue Note he was releasing music on Giles Peterson’s Brownswood Recordings. He released two abum there The Dreamer in 2008 and Blackmagic in 2010. Both of them are good records in their own right, what they offer more than anything is the opportunity to witness the growth of an incredibly talented artist. He has also worked with Chico Hamilton, Junior Mance, and produced the recently released Rising Son from Blue Note mate, Takuya Kuroda. One of the stand out tracks from BlackMagic was the last track on the album “The Light”. It’s beautifully composed and the melody is beautiful. I urge you to check out his projects, and in June when his new album drops you can join with me in celebration of a slightly delayed birthday gift.
Trumpeter Takuya Kuroda is releasing his debut Blue Note album Rising Son on February 18th. This probably the most anticipated for a new jazz project I’ve been since Canvas from Robert Glasper. That version of “Everybody Loves The Sunshine” sounds great. You can preorder the album by clicking the link below. Check out Takuya’s back catalog as well and his work with Jose James.
Do yourself a favor and run over to Jose James Soundcloud page and purchase some music that is not terrible. I can’t even accurately describe what you’re going to hear. You should do that all by yourself.
