I like this dude.
I like this dude.
Dee-1 calls upon the lyrical talents of Big K.R.I.T. and Lupe Fiasco for the remix to “Against Us” from 3’s Up. I wish all the good things to happen for Dee-1. He is equal parts talented and good human being. DJ Young Venom played me a mixtape of his several years back and I was a fan immediately. Here he finds himself not only holding his own against a pair of Hip-Hop vets, but shining next to them.
Lupe has been taking some flack lately for the tracks he’s been dropping. So he decides to release (a watermarked version) of a track featuring AB-Soul called “Thorns & Horns” and in the words of Jeff Daniels as the incomparable Harry Dunne, “TOTALLY REDEEM YOURSELF”. Now see picture above, can we get a version with Twista on it?
I am not an advocate for violence or hate for the sake of hate, okay that’s not true, sometimes the best therapy is a well placed hateful barb. But this is ridiculous, not only is Lupe calling out a legend in the industry he is performing in, he is making a fool out of himself. Not let me express a couple things real quick, I have a preconceived notion about Lupe. Dating back to like 2007 and the Magic convention when I met dude and he was on complete douche bag mode. For no reason, a few things played out and he ended up showing the true colors of his character. Regardless I stayed a fan and supported him. I thought he had a real gift and I still do. But his career has had many ups and downs. Hip Hop honors when he admits to not being familiar with the Tribe catalog which he was called upon to perform in their honor. His questionable political stances, but this takes the cake. My personal opinion aside on the use of the track, Lupe made a fool of himself to Sway today, not only calling out Pete Rock. The equivalent of someone like Michael Crabtree calling out Jerry Rice, sometimes you just don’t do. Anyway, Lupe’s rant feels eerily like the Ray J rant going at Fabolous, another head scratcher…….I kept waiting for Lupe to talk about his indoor AND outdoor pools, and his fleet of Bentleys in the parking lot. He keeps mentioning his team and all types of nonsense, then at the end of the video he won’t even listen to anyone responding to him.
I present to you the 2nd video in our 3 part propaganda video series entitled “Voice of the underground” for our upcoming F/W line.
In the previous installment we shone the light on the very familiar “Intellectual” original anarchist Noam Chomsky, in this 2nd installment we shift our sights towards the very “Creative” original anarchist Alan Moore “one of the most important British writers of the last fifty years” you’ll recognize his works in Anarchistic driven themes like V for Vendetta, Watchmen, The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen and my personal favorite “SUPREME” (Image Comics).
The purpose of the Original Anarchist line looks to bring a new re-programmed association to the term “Anarchy” by the 3rd installment of our video series we hope to break down conditioned negative associations with the word and reveal it’s forsaken true identity….
*This 2nd installment is in support of the upcoming Fiasco Friday (http://fiascofriday.com) rally/protest being organized against Atlantic Records and put into place this October 15th in NYC by the brave FNF fans/supporters/warriors that believe in the relevance and importance of Lupe Fiasco’s current day message, music and it’s place in popular culture. Please visit the website to find out more information and how you can participate. -Voice of the underground
