Here is some great footage of Marvin performing “What’s Going On?” live in 1972. Nothing short of brilliant. I am not sure what this footage is from, that does not matter though. What does matter is that it is right here right now.

Marvin Gaye releases this version of “God Is Love” as the b-side to the “What’s Going On” single. The final album version was rearranged and reproduced. The music from this original version can be heard on another Motown group lead by Richard Street, The Monitors’ “Just To Keep You Satisfied” released a year earlier, written by Marvin.

Oddisee is preparing to release his new album “People Hear What They See” next month, but rather than do the standard issue single leaks, he wanted to make it more interesting. So last night Oddisee released a video of Marvin Gaye’s ‘Ain’t That Peculiar’ remixed by Oddisee (including a new verse). Next week we will be giving away this track along with 3 others Oddisee created featuring remixed songs by K-Os, Bon Iver, Metronomy. The collection of 4 tracks is called “Odd Renditions”. The video was done by editing several pieces of footage found of Marvin Gaye performing the song together and sychronizing the new remixed track – enjoy!
The Marquees – Wyatt Earp : A little doo wop group that was one of Marvin Gaye’s first musical venture, the group was discovered by Bo Diddley and eventually absorbed by Chess Records after being recruited by Harvey Fuqua to become the “New” Moonglows.
The “New” Moonglows – Twelve Months Of The Year : Which features an opening and closing monologue by Marvin Gaye
Marvin Gaye – Never Let You Go : In 1961, Berry Gordy released Marvin’s first single, “Let Your Conscience be your Guide”, the b-side was perhaps a better commercial choice. A little diddy called “Never Let You Go”. A star was truly being born…..
Marvin Gaye – Sunny : Proof that Marvin was brilliant, and sometimes even more so when covering other artists’ work. He definitely did Bobby Hebb’s beautiful track justice. One of the most incredible songs of the 20th Century covered by one of it’s greatest artist……magical….
Marvin Gaye – What’s Going On : The civil, social, economical, and foreign affairs in the 50’s and 60’s gave way to some of the most powerful music of the century. Songs that reached into the soul of a person and stirred about their very existence. Marvin Gaye was one artist who channeled these emotions very well. Marvin made the transition into the politically charged music territory and created his opus. His album What’s Going On, released in ’71, featured such tracks as, “What’s Going On?”, “Mercy, Mercy, Me”, “Right On”, and “Inner City Blues”…..name 10 artists who can boast that sort of catalog, and then artist who can do it on one album……
Marvin Gaye – Inner City Blues
Marvin Gaye – Let’s Get It On (Live) : Recorded while Marvin was creating What’s Going On, his album Let’s Get It On, was equally as brilliant. Proving himself as equally proficient a lover as a fighter, Marvin turned music upside down, with songs like “Let’s Get It On” and “Distant Lover”
Marvin Gaye – I Want You (Vocal / Rhythm Version) : A few years later, Marvin recorded I Want You, again a great and beautiful masterpiece. Marvin had not out done himself, he had added to his extensive catalog. Unfortunately we start seeing a decline in Marvin here, an inner struggle that none of us truly understand. Divorce, drugs, money : all these factor in with the decline of Marvin, however, it merely serves as a hiccup in a brilliant career. He still gave us tracks like “Sexual Healing” and “Falling In Love Again”
Marvin Gaye – Falling In Love Again : Happy Birthday Marvin, thank you for all you left behind….on behalf of myself and all future generations, we are eternally grateful….
