After a week off, Bloggy Bonilla and Silent G are back for episode 12 of Comprehensive Beatdown. This week’s album, “Have a Nice Life,” is Murs’ first record since signing to Strange records in February of 2014. Murs is best known as being a former member of the Living Legends crew as well as his work with Slug (of Atmosphere) and his numerous, well-loved solo albums. The guys also check out new tracks from Camp Lo, Abstract Rude, Holly Herndon, and local track from Jackson Heavyweight PyInfamous.
Murs and ¡MAYDAY! have combined forces and will release ¡MURSDAY! on June 10th. A collaborative effort from the Strange Music alumni. “Here” is a sublime dedication to the 9-5ers trying to break out and follow their dreams. Those who work all day at their job to go home and follow their dreams and aspirations. Enjoy. STRANGE!!!!!
Murs is dropping all kinds of new music over the next 5 months on his Murs 316 imprint. To introduce his crew to everyone, rap’s Nick Carter shot a video for the posse cut “S.O.S.” featuring Kosha Dillz, Jabee, Marley B, Cash Lansky, MC Optimal and Reverie. With the Paid Dues franchise at his disposal I think this venture could be successful. Check out some music below.
Living Legends were murdering the underground hip-hop scene. Boasting members, Lucky.I.Am, Murs, Aesop, Sunspot Jonz, Eligh, Grouch, Scarub, and Bicasso, as well as a host of loosely affiliated emcees. Grown up on the west coasts Project Blowed/Good Brothers movement, they were the emcee’s emcee. They released album after album, solo, group, side groups, etc. They murdered shows. I remember going to see them in Ft Collins, at the Aggie, I believe. Everyone was with them, even Arata, their Japanese affiliate. This was back before everybody had wireless mics, so what we had was 7 emcees on stage, each equipped with their own microphone and accompanied mic cord. As the group, moved through song after song (they performed for damn near 2 hours, unheard of for a rap group these days), those mic cords were obviously entangled. During vocal breaks, each member would try frantically, usually in vain, to free up some slack. About halfway through the show they sort of just gave up. The result was as the show grew closer and closer to it’s end, everyone was rapping closer and closer together as the ball of microphone entrails grew. As the show winded down, everyone was just about face to face going through their verse on the last song. One by one as they finished, they dropped their microphone in relief and celebration. As eventful as that night was, the lasting memory will definitely be the the look on the soundman’s face as he walked on stage while the lights came on…….#Fatality
Side-bar = Grouch stage diving, very unannounced and landed on me, bending the bill on my brand new Royals fitted all up. This started a lifelong detest for Grouch, which continues to this day….I literally bought that damn hat 3 hours before the show……Pay attention at shows kids…..
This track, “Reflections” featuring the Freestyle Fellowship’s Aceyalone, is one of my all-time favorite Living Legend tracks……
I KNOW, I wasn’t the only one that saw this coming from Murray, right? Murs has the energy and hustle of a punk rocker, I swear.I mean the dude drops off his own flyers, slangs his own cds, and builds incredible relationships with his fan base. That’s more punk rock and hip-hop. Be honest, once most people reach the level Murs has, everything goes on cruise control.
Nawlin’ emcee Dee-1 drops yet another video from I Hope They Hear Me Vol 2 and gets ready to drop the DJ Drama hosted The Focus Tape.No frontin’ either, Murs real rocks the Prius……well done Nick Carter…..well done…..
