With Mello Music Group gearing up to release Petestrumentals 2 on June 23rd, we got some nice visuals from one of the cuts from the album “Cosmic Slop”. You already know what it is. You’ll be required to purchase on June 23rd or else you will be required to turn in your Hip-Hop card.
Pete Rock invented and perfected the remix, this is not debatable. The remix to “Searching” can be used as Exhibit A in the defense of this claim. Pete effortlessly utilizes “The Look Of Love” and creates a brand new version of the already brilliant track from The Main Ingredient. There is a certain playlist of Pete Rock remixes that I could seriously listen to from the rest of my life. The man is a genius.
De La Soul will be releasing Smell The D.A.I.S.Y. on Wednesday, March 26th. The project is a homage to late producer extraordinaire James D Yancey, known worldwide as J Dilla. “Vocabulary Spills” is an example of the spectacular awesomely awesomeness that is certain to be this mixtape. The trio is planning on dropping one more mixtape (Premium Soul On The Rocks), produced by Pete Rock & DJ Premier, before releasing their full-length album You’re Welcome.
“You cry keepin it real, you should try keepin it right.” just was raw when quoted today as it was all them years ago……
Pete Rock is more than qualified to put together a tribute mix to everyone’s favorite vibraphone player. He is one of the most sampled musicians in the history of hip-hop music. In fact without Roy Ayers, the hip-hop music industry would sound much different indeed. Pete throws together a brilliant array of Roy’s fingerprints on the music industry. Pete Rock’s “Dilla Mix 2014” from Backspin Radio on Sirius radio. That’s pretty much all I need to say about all that. Download it and listen on repeat and stop celebrating Dilla one day a year. I been said it #EverydayIsDillaDay
As we get closer to January 28th, Jamla Is The Squad is closer to being copped. 9th Wonder drops another gem from it featuring Soul Brother #1, Lecrae, and Rapsody over production from Khrysis. The result is a groovy little number called “Be Inspired” which does just that.
The Canadian talk show host George Stroumboulopoulos’ “Christmas Eve Music Special” will air on Christmas Eve (D’uh), and as a part of the programming they got Pete Rock, Kardinal Offishall, Deltron 3030, Camp Lo, Shad, Maestro, Jully Black, SonReal, Michie Mee, Eternia and Dan-e-o to perform Run DMC’s classic “Christmas In Hollis”. I miss Arsenio…….Anywho, this is pretty cool. Enjoy….
I got into a twittscussion the other day about the pitfalls of the movie Menace II Society. I’ve sat and chilled on it for a few days and I think I’m going to write something up on it. I feel pretty strongly about the views that were expressed, however, that doesn’t change the fact that the soundtrack was hot, son. From Spice 1’s “Trigga Gots No Heart”, DJ Quik’s House Of Pain diss, “Can’t F*** wit *****”, UGK, Brand Nubian, Guru & The Cutthroats, Pete Rock & CL Smooth, MC Eiht, BDP, and a slew of other artists. So here I’m doing my video of the day tribute to Menace II Society, which I will roast very shortly as well….enjoy…..The movie starred a gang of rappers MC Eiht, Too Short, Saafir (Caine’s cousin Harold), and Pooh-Man. However it’s the exclusion of one particular rapper that made the most noise, Tupac Shakur was originally slated to be in the movie as Sharif, however he was fired, which lead to an butt whooping and charges being filed against Pac. Anyway…here…..we….goooooooo
UGK – POCKET FULL OF STONES (PORT ARTHUR REMIX)
MC EIHT – STREIHT UP MENACE
DJ QUIK – CAN’T F*** WITH A *****
THE CUTTHROATS – STOP LOOKING AT ME [FEAT GURU]
PETE ROCK & CL SMOOTH – DEATH BECOMES YOU [FEAT THE Y.G.z]
You don’t have to get very far in to find the sample from this track, 3 seconds in Pete Rock found a sample for the posse cut “The Basement”, Buckshot and Large Pro on “Just Hanging Out” also used that sample. 21 seconds in JSwift got some inspiration for “Ya Mama”
