So much awesomeness in this video I can’t even begin to write about it all. I started watching football in like 1986, meaning the first game I remember actually watching on TV was the Chicago Bears vs New England Patriots. My dad wasn’t a big sports guy and so it wasn’t on TV much. That changed once I watched the Super Bowl, I was drawn in. The next year I watched as much as I could. In 1987, after seeing a couple Philadelphia Eagles games I became an Eagles fan, mostly due to the electrifying play of quarterback Randall Cunningham. I have been a loyal Eagles fan since, with the highs and lows. Things like this just help to cement my choice way back when I was 10 years old.
Philadelphia Eagles running back LeSean “Shady” McCoy, tackle Jason Peters, and guard Evan Mathis were named first team All-Pro selections by the NFL. Congratulations fellas, now let’s go kick some butt in the playoffs.
Today, Philadelphia Eagles head coach named Nick Foles, over Mike Vick, the starting quarterback for the remainder of the 2013 season. Well done, Nick gives the Eagles the best chance to win for a few reasons. He is throwing the football more accurately than Vick, he is making better decisions, and he’s staying relatively healthier than #7. His numbers in the 8 games he’s played this season are stellar. He’s completing 65% of his passes, he’s thrown 16 TDs with 0 INTs, rushed for 2 more scores, he’s thrown for an average of almost ten years an attempt and most importantly the team is winning. So Chip Kelly made who one would see from the outside as the obvious choice.
As a football fan however, this is kind of bitter sweet. I was the one cheering Vick on through out the entire process. I wanted him to succeed. I believe a lot of people wanted it, but let’s not miss out on the fact that he already has succeeded. He was incarcerated, lost what seemed like everything and became an outcast from the NFL. He paid his debt to society, a relatively harsh one if you ask my personal opinion, and worked his way back to a starting quarterback. If this is where his chapter ends in Philadelphia, I certainly don’t believe this is where it ends in the Nation Football League. I’m sure that he will be able to go to a team who can benefit from him leadership and skill-set.
Right now, it’s Philly Bird Gang football people, we’re only getting better.
LeSean McCoy (seen above dicing the Dallas Cowboys for 185 yds and 2 scores) has agreed to a 5 year extension worth reportedly 45 million dollars. The signing insures McCoy, one of the league’s best running backs for the past 2 seasons and is the anchor of a very young and explosive core of offensive players. A Pro Bowl and All-Pro in 2011, he led the league in first downs, and was the 4th leading rusher. McCoy said “I love this team, and I’m kind of a hometown kid from Harrisburg which is like an hour and a half away”. The Eagles bolstered their defense in the draft and grabbed Demetrius Bell to sub in for the injured Jason Peters. They also locked up DeSean Jackson through 2016 and LeSean now through 2017. They drafted Nick Foles out of Arizona in the 3rd round, a potential Mike Vick replacement in long-term goals. They picked up DeMeco Ryans, in a trade with Houston, toshore up a glaring gap in the middle of the defense. It’s looking like not only 2012 but also the next several years will see the Eagles as a very serious and dangerous contender.
In 1996, the Philadelphia Eagles used it’s 61st pick in the second round of the NFL draft to take a two-time all-american safety from Clemson, Brian Dawkins. Brian won the job of starting Free-Safety and never looked back. He held the position until the end of the 2008 season, when he was not re-signed by the Eagles. He would later sign with the Broncos and enjoy a few very productive seasons until he retired earlier this afternoon. As an Eagles fan, I have the utmost respect for Mr. Dawkins. He was the anchor in a secondary that also included Troy Vincent and Bobby Taylor. They were key in the smoothering Eagles defense, Dawkins was elected to 9 Pro-Bowls, he was an All-Pro 6 times and he was named to the 2000 all decade team. Dawkins started 181 of the 182 games he played for the Eagles…..that’s ridiculous by most standards…..He played the game with a passion that is seldom seen these days. I’d have no problem with him returning to Philly in some sort of coaching capacity…..anything, or hell he can have Reid’s job if you ask me….justsayin…..
I know how it works, an injury should never cost someone their job…blah blah blah, tell that to Drew Bledsoe….Anyway word from Andy Reid is that Michael Vick will go back to 2nd string this week after nearly rescuing the Eagles in week 1 vs the Packers and leading them to a win in week 2, all be it against the hapless, Shaun Hill lead, Detroit Lions. I’m not very happy about it to be honest, I think giving Michael Vick another shot, as they decided on doing last year shouldn’t be derailed so their prodigal on, Kevin Kolb, can continue to blandly lead the offense again. I like the idea of Kolb and think he can become a decent professional quarterback, but right now he needs to learn some more about being a NFL passer. So my advice to you Andy is to do something you’ve rarely done in your career as the Eagles Coach, make the right decision when it matters….
I was busy last weekend and didn’t get to welcome the NFL season properly….Today though will be my opening day….Eagles play the Lions, so I shouldn’t have a problem getting a win there. We got VIck starting for the first time since 2006 and all the drama that surrounded since. I’m glad we kept him as I wasn’t really comfortable with Kolb just yet…. Below is perhaps one of the finest musical moments in football history when the 1985 Chicago Bears were superbowl shuffling their way into America’s heart, stomping a hole in the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl that year. I included the less known “Buddy’s Watching You” by the 1988 Eagles, an ode to their fiery head coach Buddy Ryan. Also, as an extra added bonus the download of A Tribe Called Quest’s song “Game Day” featuring former New York Giants running back Rodney Hampton

Brett, I’m sure you’re coming back and I’m sure you’ll have a good chance at a title in Minnesota. I wish the best for you and would love for you to get one more ring before calling it a career….. with that being said, I could care less if you decide to or not. I’m not sure if it’s you or ESPN that turns this into a circus every year. Maybe it’s both, but man for real it’s pretty ridiculous. I flew to Green Bay and watched what many figured was your last regular season game. I applauded your decision to call it a career and considered you one of the best who ever done it. Now after what seems like a decade of fence sitting every off season on whether to come back or not, I just can’t bring myself to care anymore. Plus, I’m a Philly fan, so Minnesota can go service themselves in a public restroom on a sex boat in Lake Minnetonka for all I care anyways…..
