The guys are back this week with one of their most anticipated albums of the year, “Take Me to the Alley” by Gregory Porter. This is Porter’s 4th solo album and his follow-up to the Grammy winning (best jazz vocal performance) “Liquid Spirit.” Silent G talks about his experience seeing Gregory Porter at Jazz Fest in New Orleans last weekend in the Jazz Tent as a severe thunderstorm wreaked havoc on the festival grounds, causing the cancellation of the remainder of the day’s shows, including a two-hour Stevie Wonder performance.
The intro music comes from the new Lack of Afro Album, “Hello Baby.”

After a quick vacation, Bloggy Bonilla and Silent G are back with Episode 26 of Comprehensive Beatdown. This week, the guys take a look back ten years to “Late Registration,” Kanye West’s second album, released August 30, 2005. “Late Registration,” released to critical acclaim and high sales, was given a boost after Kanye’s (in)famous “George Bush doesn’t care about Black people” quote at a Hurricane Katrina relief benefit just days after the album’s release. Kanye West would go on to be one of the most influential players in pop culture and remains so to this day. The guys discuss all of that and more this week as they take a listen back through one of the better albums of the early 21st century.
Comprehensive Beatdown is back with Episode #23. This week, Bloggy Bonilla and Silent G check out the debut album “Universes” from Seven Davis Jr., which was released on July 24 by @ninja-tune . @seven-davis-jr creates an upbeat collection of songs using a palette of house, disco, electro, and more. Fans of Thundercat and Toro Y Moi, both artists previously covered on the podcast, should enjoy this album.

Bloggy Bonilla and Silent G are back with Episode #22 of Comprehensive Beatdown, this week covering “Time Astonishing,” the collaborative album between producer L’Orange and legendary rapper Kool Keith. “Time Astonishing,” released by Mello Music Group on July 24th, mixes L’Orange’s signature beat-making style with the otherworldly raps of Kool Keith and a healthy dose of B-movie samples and science fiction themes to create a trippy record about space travel and physics. It’s heavy and fun at the same time.
The guys also check out a track off the new Romare album as well as brand new songs from friends of the podcast Marcel P. Black and PyInfamous.
