Drums….drums can make or break a track. When Stro Elliot, producer for The Procussions, remixes a track there is always one constant, THE DRUMS ARE BANGING. This is as sure as the sun rising in the east and setting out west. Mackenzie is an up and coming vocalist from Los Angeles, CA. He voice is nearly flawless, his song writing is on point. Together the two take us on a trip through the cosmos on the back of a Luck Dragon. The milky way is the backdrop and aurora borealis tour guide. Enjoy.
The Procussions’ self titled third release was one of the most complete albums of 2013. Today, Mr J Medeiros and Stro Elliot released a remix to one of their strongest songs from the album, “Phantasm” which features 20Syl of the French Hip-Hop Juggernaut Hocus Pocus. Remixed by producer Atom!, it gets an edgier electronic reboot. Since Stro Elliot handles the groups production, it’s always interesting to hear what other people do when remixing their songs.
Stro Elliot of the Procussions sat down with DJ MZA and Ebo for an episode of Soul Circle Radio a couple months back to discuss the new Procussions album as well as lay down a rare DJ set.
Then going by just Poems, the L.A. Symphony fam, also known as Sharlok Poems, dropped his album Blooming Sounds, a really solid project in my opinion. This single featured production and vocals from Stro Elliot of the Procussions. Classic Stro production fusing jazzy harmony with hip-hop drums, creating a beautiful feeling track. Poems rhymes effortlessly over the beat crafting his rhythmic definition of what “Love” is. Shout out to White Chedda (Tasha), Ganksta azz Sam who round out just a sample of the beautiful women who blessed the video.
Let me get this straight, this is a Procussions’ track, period. I’ll accommodate the powers that be by separating the two, but it’ll go into my iTunes as such. It’s really good to hear these two rapping together. What’s more hip-hop than hating one’s job? Very interested in hearing if and when the new Procussions project will see the light of day…….
Mr J Medeiros (The Procussions) & Pigeon John (L.A. Symphony/Rootbeer) join forces with Rational, a Canadian-born emcee who’s album The Birthwrite is available for purchase now on I-tunes. This track is a smooth, jazz type of vibe one would expect to hear during the second hip-hop golden age……I highly recommend checking the track and the album out.
If you ever had the chance to see a Procussion’s show you know that the chemistry and music these guys are capable of is undeniably excellent. Hailing from Colorado Springs, before the fires started. They toured with a who’s who in the hip hop world. They crafted two decidedly solid efforts, the second 5 Sparrows for 2 cents on the relaunch of Rawkus Records. The achieved much critical acclaim, however, the label wasn’t prepared to compete in a market place that had changed so much. Fast forward several years and the Procussions haven’t released anything under that moniker since. It was announced last month that they would be returning to their home state and performing together, the last incarnation of the group that is. Stro Elliot and Mr J Medeiros, who have been working together since the split of the group, will be taking the stage together for 3 dates while in Colorado. Click on the pic below for details. On the eve of those shows, starting on July 6th, Mr J Medeiros drops his ode to Colorado, produced by Stro Elliot. With the chaos going on in the state, it’s even more of an anthem right now. The essential drums from Stro and the furious bars of J make for some beautiful music, que no?
Mr J Medeiros’ Pale Blue Dot E.P. is available now for download either on Itunes or Bandcamp. Produced by Stro Elliot and featuring Giannina Ashe on the vocals, the track is seamless. Even the remix done by 20SYL which features the immensely talented Shad is incredibly moving. Above you’ll be Mr J Medeiros’ visual accompaniment for the track….enjoy
Dope remix via 20 SYL (Hocus Pocus) featuring Shad……this is what a remix should be….a complete reinterpretation of the original track…….You don’t add on to it, you make it your own…….well done fellas. Looking forward to copping the album when it drops. I got some vinyl on the way too….#winning……..
