The Easy Truth is a collaborative album between Detroit producer Apollo Brown and Brooklynite rapper Skyzoo and is available now on Mello Music Group. “A Couple Dollars” is a laid back ode to getting paid and features fellow Brooklyn born emcee Joell Ortiz. There is no doubt that this album will be one of those timeless hip-hop releases, which seems to be what Mello Music Group is all about lately. Click one of the links below and cop the album.
Skyzoo and Torae have recorded plenty of music together over the years, now they have come together to bring the world The Barrel Brothers. An album of non-stop hip-hop bangers only the way the duo can provide. The album dropped on May 27th, and the newest leak from the project, “All In Together” features another rap conglomerate, Random Axe, Sean Price and Guilty Simpson add vocal assistance over a beat provided by Black Milk. The track sounds like some Reasonable Doubt era Ski production, with the quadruplet of emcees drop bars upon bars. If you support hip-hop music on a whole then put your money where your mouth is and pick up The Barrel Brothers, below at the link.
Marvelous Mag calls on Skyzoo to tag team on this DJ Phantom track, “Still Alive”. Mag a native from Brownsville can be heard on the Hus Kingpin Meets Pro Era EP. “Still Alive” is taken from the Florida Orange Juice mixtape which drops this spring. The mixtape features additional assistance from Hus Kingpin, Smoovth, Mach Hommu and Rozewood.
What happens when you turn 4 excellent lyricists loose on a bass heavy track? You get songs like “Turn Em On”. New York emcee Passport Gift brings together Skyzoo, Tito Lopez and Crooked I on a beat produced by Parks. Everyone goes bar for bar on it too. Saying “Hip-Hop is dead” is an insult to real rappers.
9th Wonder has assembled his Army in order to pay tribute to Kung Fu’s baddest mofo in the business. He brings together Pharoahe Monch, Jean Grae, Rapsody, Big Remo, GQ, Torae, HaLo, Thee Tom Hardy, Sean Boog, Sundown of Actual Proof, Mela Machinko and SkyZoo to spit some Dyno-MITE / Dyno-MITE tracks. Who knew that when I was traveling all around LA looking for a theater who was going to carry the movie that it would blow up like this. Black Dynamite is everywhere. He’s got comic books, cartoons, mixtapes, etc. I for one couldn’t be happier. As happy as when I finally found someone carrying the DVD when it dropped. I swear I spent $100 in gas trying to track it down. Back to the mixtape, the Jean Grae track is muy bueno as is Skyzoo’s “Cool De La”. It’s a mixtape which provides the proper back drop for getting back at The Man and his army of Kung Fu Honkeys……
Mela Machinko is a Brooklyn native and known for her family appearances on albums from Pharoahe Monch to Skyzoo. She recently put out an EP titled 9AM Blues. It is rich with soothing harmonies and hip-hopesque production handled primarily by Mr Len (Company Flow). Overall it is 8 solid tracks of exactly what one would expect from the Brooklynite. If you have not hear her before, she takes me back to the days of Les Nubians and The Jazzyfatnastees, an era I call OkaySoul. If you are unfamiliar with those artists, then get to googling.
In honor of Jigga’s 44th birthday yesterday Skyzoo and Antman Wonder linked up for their take on Jay’s debut album. Antman Wonder, a composer from Philly, recreated the original tracks with some live instrumentation. Skyzoo recreated the original tracks lyrically by taking the emotion created by SC and recreating the content from his perspective. The result is a very refreshing version of a classic album. These types of things can go one of two ways, they are either incredibly successful or they are painfully terrible. This is certainly nowhere near terrible. Check it out and decide for yourself. Sidenote : I listened to “Meet The Presidents” multiple times before I could finish the album……
Is that Amil? No wait she was from Philly right? Nina reps Brooklyn/Bronx, welp, we got Action Bronson and Skyzoo to bring this track back around. With the arrival of the Brooklyn Nets this year, I’m expecting to see an influx in “BROOKLYN” representatives within the rap game…..
