Comprehensive Beatdown is back with a new episode this week, our 20th! Thanks for the continued support and listens over the past several months.
This week, Bloggy Bonilla and Silent G bring you “Summertime 06” from Vince Staples, the Long Beach, California rapper’s debut album on Def Jam after a string of popular mixtapes dating back to 2011. The guys also check out new music from Ghostface Killah & Adrian Younge, Statik Selektah, No Suh, and Emancipator.
Check out the podcast, as well as all the other great ones, at Dope Media Network (link below) as well as iTunes.
Statik Selektah drafts Black Thought, Royce Da 5’9, and Action Bronson to kick hardcore lyrics over some jazzstastic and soulful production. “The Imperial” is nothing if it is not the verbal display of talents that mere mortals cannot possess. Black Thought’s verse is everything I’ve been trying to tell fools for years. People look at me crazy when I mention his name when asked who’s the greatest. Sue me, but I dare you to prove me wrong. His resume is just as extensive as anyone you can retort with.
New Orleans based emcee, Lyrikill is back and he’s teamed up with producer Prospek for The Nostalgia EP. The project will serve as the soundtrack to the mini-movie “Oleander” The E.P. will be hosted by Statik Selektah and will feature a bonus track produced by the vet.
I have always looked at music as a means to tell a story and promote the appreciation of all forms of art,’ Lyrikill said. ‘So for this project I wanted to merge music, visual and performing art in one medium.
“Runnin’ Thru My Mind” is produced by Prospek and features cuts by DJ Inform. It combines witty lyricism with simple banging production and sharp cuts on the hook. The mini movie, directed by Houston-based upstart DH Pain Productions will start filming in February with a full release and soundtrack coming in Spring 2014. Keep tuned in for more information.
